<aside> ⚠️ this page will have full spoilers for the entirety of the dawntrail expansion. proceed with caution if you have not finished the msq & do not wish to be spoiled.

idk i’ll write something more in depth one day but i think the expansion was mid-to-OK. i am hopeful they can only go up from here but overall the plot suffers a lot from questionable pacing. i have some questions about the following:
also disclaimer but i did not play ff9 and know little to nothing about it, therefore i am largely removed from the sentimental themes that zone 6 may have had for those who have played it!
shadowbringers did grief better
in fact shadowbringers did so much of what dawntrail seemed to try to reiterate better, where the reiteration almost feels insulting? my words may seem harsh, but personally i think a major part of the exploration of grief is time. there are so many instances in dawntrail where you simply don’t have the time to process what just happened. you’re moving on, and it’s not your choice.
with that said, rewatching shadowbringers cutscenes and even those seem vastly superior and FRAMED despite having higher technical and graphical limitations. like what gives dawntrail!!! you have the tools, use them better!!
yippee
